THE GREAT TRAIN ROBBERY

Auckland's new train fleet being assembled in Wellington

The government is chipping in to buy 96 electric rail cars for Wellington at a cost of $235 million. The second time it has replaced Wellington's fleet in 50 years.
Meanwhile it has delayed once again the buying of new electric trains for Auckland's rail network until 2014 and halved the number from 147 to 75.
Auckland's aging and tiny fleet currently runs on climate unfriendly diesel.
Is this the great train robbery or not.
Is Auckland transport plan designed by morons or Wellington or an unhappy combination of both.
