Somewhere around Queens Wharf in the water would be just fine. Stupid really to leave this elegant gift in its case any longer. Finding a home for it should have been part of the project competition. Clearly too simple a task to be left to the complicated and complicating minds of Auckland City's Advisory Panel on Public Art - who by the way get paid $300 a meeting for doing what exactly?
I always had this memory that Wind Tree was a jumble of metal, but then I found this photo I took of QEII Square in 2000 and I was surprised at the flowing, glistening shape. It needs to come back.
