A BRITISH LESSON TO BE LEARNED WILL ANY ONE LEARN IT?

The near wipe out of British New Labour at the UK local body elections is a good indicator of what could happen here post a ward/electorate based local body structure. Auckland would be a weather vane for our national pollies - shape up or you will be shipped out next year. Are they up to it do you think?
Another advantage of what I propose - the top polling ward councillor becomes the ward's city councillor - would be a fine proving ground for aspirant city councillors - they would have to convince the ward first - no slipping into a seat at a the top table with a nudge and a wink and on the back of a ticket with long pockets. Do the work on the ground first. Now what could be wrong with that?
