RODNEY HIDE'S ENDANGERED SPECIES LIST

A NEW LOOK AT THE SUPER CITY WHERE RODNEY AND THE PHILISTINES WILL ROAM
As part of their support arrangements, no doubt, the Government have authorized Rodney Hide to review local government finance. It will be says Rodney transparent and simple and all about "core business" - in other words about water, cars and pooh. In that simple view libraries, galleries, museums, zoos and any kind of decent civilized life join an endangered species lists. Who will look after them - Creative New Zealand, the Ministry of Arts Culture and Heritage? Won't that be fun - Auckland Art Gallery, Central Library, Auckland Museum all funded out of the $7.50 per head they put aside for funding those things compared with the $133 they spend in Wellington.
Well don't worry folk its is just a wee biscuit given to a greedy boy to stop him bashing his high chair.
Given the current debate really bad timing though and another annoying red herring.

  1. But is it a red herring?
The current Act might have been a bit wide, but it did give councils autonomy.
Libraries are a core service - it is time they were given statutory protection, as per the Uk model.

The Auckland Museum is a different kettle of fish. It alredy has an Act framing its fundng.

So - a distraction? If only? sounds like the next layer of ACT's agenda coming into play.
