WHERE DO ALL THE PEOPLE GO?A simple solution to the waterfront mess: sell the Ports of Auckland to Tauranga before they fill the harbour with concrete and blow the bottom out of Rangitoto channel.
No need for the volume of containers that come through POA to come here at all.
Most of the freight that goes through Auckland can just as efficiently be landed at Tauranga and the port there is ALREADY as big as POA will be AFTER its expansion.
The profits of POA are spent on expanding the POA and not much finds its way anywhere else.
This is truly stupid,
Shift the Port of Auckland to Tauranga
Maintain the modest port that Auckland's cargo volumes actually need.
Then we can have a citizens waterfront like Wellington, like Sydney and like most civilised cities given the gift of the sea.
And then when the city gets a vision it can build all the iconic buildings to go with it, but a simple walk around the waterfront would be a great start.
So far they hardly have the imagination to get the city "planners" heads around something as simple as that
